Susan Kennedy is known for functional and sculptural works in clay.  Surface techniques include drawing, patterned carving and colored slip (liquid clay) application in the leather-hard stage. Work is typically fired in a soda kiln: causing mottled surfaces that range from white to earth-oranges and browns.

Kennedy states her work is about play, mutability, touch, mysterious narrative, miniature worlds and fantastical realities. Upon first glance, a portion of her work appears inspired by the marine world, often intertwined with the aforementioned subject matter.
