Bertie Smith

Born San Antonio, Texas

 

BIOGRAPHY

Bertie Smith is known for small hand-built earthenware sculptures, often in the form of teapots, totem pole assemblages of forms or human figurines. The sculptures are vibrantly decorated using underglazes, glazes and luster and either raku, reduction or salt fired.

Smith’s first ceramics classes were at the Witt Museum, San Antonio, Texas with teacher Harding Black.
